A Charming Story "A Little Princess" is the story of a girl named Sara Crewe, who has lived most of her life in India. Her father decides that it is time for her to go to school, so he sends her to a girl's school in London, England. Though she is given everything she could ever want, Sara is not spoiled, but is sensitive and well behaved. She becomes an instant favorite with the other studens when they find that she is clever and can tell stories using her vivid imagination. They begin to call her "Princess Sara", though she reasons that it is very easy to be a Princess when she has everything, and the real trial would be to be one with nothing. Prophetic words, when, on Sara's 11th birthday, Miss Minchin (the proprietress of the school) is told that Sara's father has died, and his sceme of diamond mines has fallen through, leaving Sara penniless, and with no where to go. Miss Minchin, who has never liked Sara, sends her up to the attic where she is to work as a servant. Sara's trial is to remember that a Princess is one when she acts like one, and even in rags and tatters, she can be generous and kind, loving and forgiving. Though the work is hard, and she is almost always hungry, she still finds it within herself to befriend the scullery maid, Becky, and keep in contact with her old school friends from downstairs. The Indian gentleman, an invalid who lives next door, takes an interest in her, and attemps to make her life more pleasant, while continuing his search for the lost daughter of his friend Captain Crewe, his partner in the diamond mines, which where not a disaster after all, but in fact a success. When Sara goes to his house to return his money, which ran across the roof to her attic, they discover that she is the girl that they have been looking for, and she is not a pauper after all, but an heiress. This is a charming book for younger children, but can also be enjoyed by older women, as a reminder that even through adversity kindness can be shown. One of the most memorable reminders of this is when Sara finds a fourpence on the street, and goes to buy some buns from the bakery, as she is extremely hungry. After the kind baker gives her 6 penny buns instead of 4, she gives 5 of them to a beggar child, who is starving, keeping only 1 for herself. This action shows Sara to be a true Princess- not by posession alone, but by her self-sacrificing actions, and her selfless giving of whatever she had, be that buns or her time and imagination to tell stories and help with the school work of her friend Ermingaurd, even though she is exhausted and getting caught would mean severe punishment. This book deserves to be read again and again by all ages, and hold a deserving place on the family bookshelf. my little princess reveiw A Little Princess Do you want an exciting, interesting book to read? Well here is the most charming and wonderful classic you will ever read. Sara's Papa takes her to a new school in London and leaves Sara in the care of Miss Minchin. Miss Minchin treats her like a princess. Sara is really rich and has the best manners. For some reason Sara's Papa dies of jungle fever and money problem. Her Papa dies without leaving her a single penny. As soon Miss Minchin hears the news she starts treating her like a slave, makes her sleep in the attic and work for her living. Sara is all alone but she still has hope. Sara keeps telling herself that she can still be a little princess inside if she tries hard enough. The type of writing style the author used included lots of descriptive word and made you feel like you are in the story acting along , beside the characters. When I read it I couldn't stop until I reached the very end. I can't describe how exciting this story is. It's so exciting that you can't even breath!! This is best book that you will ever read! The themes in this story are love ,care, excitement, and cruelty. These are themes because there is a lot of love between Sara and here Papa. There is a lot of cruelty because Miss Minchin treats Sara like a slave. Sara is very caring so there is also care as a theme. Sara cares for everybody even if they are very rude. She shows respect and doesn't hold grudges. Love is a theme because Sara knows that her Papa will love her even though she is far away and she will love him too. Cruelty is one of the themes because Miss Minchin only treats people nicely if they make her look good in front of every body or if they're really rich. After Sara is poor Miss Minchin is really mean to her because she no longer rich and Sara can't pay for the food and clothes that bought her a long time ago. Here are some characters you will meet throughout the book. Sara is a kind, caring and tall girl with green eyes and black hair. Sara is kind because she always stands up for people and treats everybody with respect and always has a positive attitude. She is also caring because she cares about everybody around her and helps them when they're hurt. There is also Becky, a kind, caring, helpful, and brave little servant girl who is treated like a slave Becky is brave because she always is in a good mood even if she gets screamed at or gets slapped. Now you know Becky and Sara and of course there is Miss Minchin , who is totally opposite from Becky and Sara. Miss Minchin is cold hearted, mean, selfish, and greedy. She is selfish because she doesn't feed Becky just because she has no money to give to her if she feeds her. Sara's best friend is Ermengrade, a girl with a pair of rather dull blue eyes. She is a plump little child, very friendly and very helpful. She doesn't know much French and often gets laughed at but she has a pure heart and is beautiful girl. This story takes place in London at Miss Minchin's school for little girls. They learn French, different languages and have grand rooms of their own. Most part of the story takes place at Miss Minchin's school. The building is tall, damp, dirty, and dark. Miss Minchin takes them to church and for walks in the morning. Miss Minchin gives the little girls room with lace and fluffy pillows. She would feed them until they're full and Miss Minchin provides them with new fluffy pillows for their rooms. . Now you know some parts about the book. I really recommend this book because once you flip to the first page you get absorbed in and can't come out of the book until you reach the very last page of this funny, interesting, sad book. If you don't read this magnificent, breathtaking book you will always regret it for an eternity. Trust me you'll love it so much. She was a very rich little girl and also bratty too. The father was famous because he was a Captain and he set off for a trip and he sends Sara to a school where she can be learning and studying. when she was sent to the school she fixes up her attitude and turns very nice and caring to one another and to the other girls in the school. During his journey he had a surprise death on Sara's eleventh birthday. She soon became poor and had to live in the attic of the school. Now, Miss Minchin, the woman that took care of her, treated her really badly. She also took Sara's riches, but she didnt know it belonged to Sara. The father's friend thought he lost their riches but Sara was just next door to where the father's friend lived. The father's friend soon founded out that Sara was there. Sara had a choice to go with the father's friend or Miss Minchin, of course Sara was smart enouh to pick the father's friend. All those days when she was stuck in the attic made her become ery helpful to the poor, so now she gave food to the poor. I liked this book because she used to be very bratty and mean to peoples and ever since she lived in the attic of the school she became helpful to the poor. I also liked this book because it also became a movie. The movie was a little different but it was still reasonable to the book. i also liked this book for being a fairy tale like story. This book also had many graphics to help me know whats going on sometimes. I didnt like this book a little because of the death of the father. Ever since the father died Sara ot treated very badly from Miss Minchin and i dont like people being treated badly, especially when they dont deserve to be treated like that way. Plus, i dont like how Miss minchin lied to the father's friend about treating Sara like she was treated very well and how she was supposed to have been treated. Everybody should show every other person all the respect or loyalty to all peoples, for example to rich or even poor people they should be treated well equaly. My favorite part of this book is when the father's friend finally found Sara. I was very surprised that he just lived right next to the school and didn't know that Sara had been stayin there for all this time. I was also glad when Sara picked to live with the father's friend and not the evil Miss Minchin. plus, i also liked when Sara was treating the poor well and giin them food and charity appliances, that was very nice and helpful. Lastly, I liked how she always believed in herself een though she had a bad time she always was succesful somehow and accomplished what she had to do to stay alive and wealthy. My Favorite Book I'm not going to go through what this book is about, because you can read any of the other reviews here to find that out. I'm just going to say that this is my all-time favorite book. When I was little I read it over and over again, and I modelled myself after the main character. I still do. I love her because she's gentle and kind, she was rich and everyone thought she was spoiled but it wasn't true, she bore her trials well and remained true to herself when things took a turn for the (extreme) worse. She was generous and smart and she didn't have a short temper but she wasn't afraid to get angry if she had good cause. And just a million other things. If I had my way every little girl would have a copy of this book, and also every adult woman. A Little Princess review I think that A Little Princess was a very good book because of the sequence of events that Sara Crewe has to go through. See also:
