[.ca] Simple Sewing (ISBN 1570543178)

great hands on project:
I got this book as a Christmas gift a couple years back because I had been wanting to learn how to sew . This book was very fun, educational, and had simple instructions.. It come with just about everything you need to get started(needles,thread,cloth,ect.).The only thing you would need extra is scissors, a ruler, and other around-the-house supplies. The book includes 7 fun projects wich include a scented sachet, a needle book, a strawberry pin cushion, a dishtowel apron(you'll need an old towel for this one), drawstring pouch (i couldn't get this one to turn out right), a mouse, and a fat cat. Although this book was fun, I would suggest it to someone that is around the ages of 8-13(the book had sharp needles and some things that a smaller child wouldn't understand).

Thank You Klutz!:
A friend of mine had been pestering me to teach her how to sew. Since she had no experience at all, I suggested she pick up this Klutz book to get a basic understanding of sewing techniques. She laughed it off at first saying that this book is obviously aimed at children and that she'd need something for adults. (She hadn't yet experienced the world of Klutz!) When I finally convinced her that this book is indeed what she needed, she picked it up and totally got into it. She made the drawstring pouch and then realized she could make a bigger one to use as a purse. And by enlarging the pattern for the scented satchel, she now makes wonderful bags to wrap gifts. In fact, she's becoming quite a sewing whiz. Thank you Klutz for saving me from having to teach another friend the basics of sewing! Obviously, I'm giving this book five stars. It is easy to understand, comes with the tools you need to get started and starts from square one. I'm convinced anyone can learn to sew by following the steps in this book.

Best Birthday Present:
My almost 10yo loved this kit with instructions. She made a needle case, slip-bag, and stuffed cat totally unassisted using just the supplies in the kit and the instructions in the book. We've purchased 6 more of these to give as Birthday gifts for 9-11 year old girls. They've all responded very positively as well.

great for a rainy day:
I bought this for my daughter because she wanted to learn to sew for her dolls, but I can't even sew a button. She is only six so I had to help her a lot, but it was a good learning experience for both of us. She made a pin cushion, needle holder and bag so far. She likes to stretch out the projects and so them on rainy, hang at home days.

Great Hands On Projects:
My 9yo daughter can do these projects unassisted and has achieved a great sense of accomplishment in doing so. Easy projects for beginner seamstress (hand sewing)w/ clear pictures and directions. PLUS all the raw materials (felt, fabric, ribbon, trims, needles and thread) that you need to complete the projects. A great b-day gift for this age, too. Highly recommended for girls (and boys?) who like quiet pastimes and working with their hands. --From a Mom.
