California Redwoods To Grow

This living redwood is a hearty tree that can live and thrive in almost any locale with proper care (although it may not achieve the size it would in its native environment). In most areas, fall is the ideal time to plant the seedling-for best results, it should be planted in a container and grown outdoors for two to three years (bring indoors during extreme cold or heat). Once the tree reaches five feet or more, it can be planted in the ground. Two of the three living species of redwood, Giant Sequoia or Coast Redwood, are available (both are evergreen). Seedlings are approximately two years old; 10 to 18 inches high. Care instructions included. Choose from: Giant Sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum). The world's largest tree in volume and weight, it climbs to average heights of 150 to 275 feet, has a 30- to 40-foot diameter, and an average lifespan of over 2,000 years. Grows approximately one to three feet a year. May be grown in most areas. Coast Redwood (Sequoia sempervirens). Taller and less massive than the Giant Sequoia, it is the tallest living tree in the world. Typically growing anywhere from 200 to over 300 feet, at maturity it has a diameter averaging from 8 to 20 feet and a lifespan of 400 to 1,800 years. Best grown in a relatively mild climate. Grows approximately 12 inches a year. Please specify Giant Sequoia or Coast Redwood. Please allow 4 - 6 weeks for delivery. Premium and Express Delivery not available.
