The Joys of Country Strife

Everyone says that the sixties were exciting and full of change, but nobody experienced this in quite the way June Baker did. An unassuming secretary, she meets what she takes to be a nice, normal man and decides to marry him. They are in love. Little did she know that this was the first step on the road to chasing pigs, selling watercress wholesale and bricklaying! Turns out, Malcolm isn't that normal after all, although he is very nice! A son of the soil, with no wish to sacrifice his whole life to the factory where he works, Malcolm wants a smallholding all of his own. How fortunate that he is blessed with a wealth of knowledge to pass on to his new bride, along with all the really unpleasant jobs. Through hard times and good, through flood, blizzard and electrical storm, this is the story of how the Bakers proved to be more than the sum of their parts.
