The Confused Photographer's Guide to On-Camera ... (ISBN 0966081706)

Great Book:
Until I had this book one takes photographs that the camera takes. After reading this book you can be in control. The Author gives a very detailed and easy to understand explanation of why some photographs don't turn out the way we expect them to and tells you how to manipulate the new electronic exposure meters built in to today's cameras. I recommend this book to all budding photographers. That's the only way to pay tribute to this book and author.

Must Read for any beginner:
I was taking pictures with a Point and Shoot for 8 years without any idea about exposures. I bought this book along with my first film DSLR. I started understanding exposures after reading the book, but I didn't have the patience or discipline to keep track of exposures for every shot in a roll of film. It was not until I got my first digital camera (a point and shoot) that I re-read the book and armed with EXIF information and instant viewing of the images, I was finally able to start experimenting with different aperture and shutter speeds and follow the book. My photography suddenly improved more in 2 weeks than in the previous 10 years of shooting. Many criticisms of this book being repetitive are justified. But I have read other books on exposure (like Bryan Peterson's excellent "Understanding Exposure") and I don't know if I'd have picked it up as easily if Farzad had not drilled the basics in me. Even now, I find myself reading Chapter 3 tips on various exposure techniques from time to time. This was about 8 years ago. Since then, he has written another book that apparently covers this book and his zone system book. I haven't seen it, but since it seems to be a superset of this one, you might want to check the new one instead. The book starts with a "Cheat Sheet" that condenses the entire book into one page. Read link#24 at http://www.amazon.com/gp/reader/0966081706/ref=sib_dp_srch_pop?v=search-inside & keywords=cheat+sheet & go.x=0 & go.y=0 & go=Go!# If you read that page and don't *completely* understand it, buy the book. I can truly say that this book dramatically changed my photography.

Great Book:
As a guide for using your in camera spot-meter I think this book is great. The illustrations are easy to understand and well explained. Spot-metering can be tricky, but this book takes all the guess work out of it. If you follow the illustrations carefully, you will enjoy and improve your photography. The main thing here is practice, practice and more practice. You have to be patient and visualize in your minds eye want you want and follow the techniques. Even though the book uses for instruction purposes slide film, once you learn and practice, I believe you will improve a great deal even if your camera has all the bells and whistles. The camera meter is just a tool, you have to decide what you want and that involves good technique. Happy shooting to all!

Good book:
Very good book covers all I wanted. Dick

A Must Have For Understanding Exposure:
I can't say enough about how great this book is. For me, getting the "correct" exposure has been one of the more challenging aspects of photography. With the simplified zone concept presented in this book I now feel much more confident. In the end, the simplified zone concept is quite simple. The author uses several different methods to explain the same material to make sure you "get it". For some, this might seem repetitive, but I think he got it right. An explanation that works for one person might not work for someone else. The end goal is to send the reader away with a new tool for having total control over the exposure of his or her images. The author achieves this brilliantly.
