Just mt 2 cents: We all know HOW to lose weight. Eat less and move more.... DUH! This book is not another diet so, don't look for that. This book is a different approach to changing yourself inside out. I found it really REAL and absolutely doable. Good book!
Gives me hope: I've never written a review for a book on here before. However, this book was so good, I just want everyone to know it. If you obsess about food and dieting but seem to make the same mistakes over and over again, then this book is for you. I read the book in 24 hours. I couldn't put it down. Finally, there is someone else out there who understands the way I think about food. Its not that I haven't read other diet books before. Its not that I don't know what kind of food or portion sizes to be eating. Its not the what, its the how. And this book gives you tricks to use to perform the how. I can tell its going to change my life, and I will proudly say I am an FFG....
Future FFG: I love this book. Lisa has been in the trenches and knows what being a FG is like. She gives practical advice. The mantras mentioned in her book also are a big help. If you are looking to make a life long change then read this book!!!
FFG and Future FFG Rock!: I am not even finished with this book and have gotten so much out of it. I am a FFG and can use all the help I can get. I do this through reading and self discovery in my new journey of "maintenance." The one tip that has been the most useful for me is "INO" It's NOT an Option! WOW, that is worth 5 stars in itself. Lisa D. creates humor with realistic advice on how to loose weight, keep it off and most importantly, be healthy.
A journey to maintenance: My favorite part of this book so far is that it says I am overweight because I just plain like to eat, and share the author's weakness for Tex-Mex! It is not because I have been horribly abused in my childhood - other than being bullied for being chubby. It is not because I am big boned - I was a 2 lb preemie. It discussions the delusions we hold and need to discard and the illusions we need to use and keep in our hand. For example, she advocates eating meals on a salad plate with a salad fork or tea spoon or chopsticks to make the meal look like more food and to take slower time eating it. She discusses volumetrics, exercise and what shoes to buy, and recommends helpful websites. Most importantly, she discusses why emotions and the inner critic cause plateaus. I have cerebral palsy and cannot really increase my intensity, just the duration, so dance classes and health clubs and running - as the author recommends - are not for me, personally. However, I do what I can in the time that I have. I am getting ready to start my lunchtime workout now! My manta is: "It matters to me!" Very inspiring. Thank you, Lisa!
