5 Klovers! Courtesy of CK2S Kwips & Kritiques: Tessa Jane (TJ) Creager is a woman alone making her way in a decidedly masculine world. Armed with the sex appeal of the most sought after saloon girl, the shrewdness of the most adept card shark, and the dexterity of the fastest gun fighter, she has made a name for herself as a successful bounty hunter after tragedy tore her family apart. When TJ runs across U.S. Marshal Jack McCay, she more than meets her match - she also meets the man who can make her realize the woman she wants to be. Jack doesn't know quite what to think of the beautiful and confounding TJ, but he is determined to figure her out - and keep her in his life permanently! When they team up to catch the notorious murderer who killed TJ's family, TJ stands to lose her life and the last bit of family she has, while Jack's secrets threaten to tear them apart! After reading several of her other novels, Brenda Williamson has quickly earned a spot on my automatic buy list for books, as well as a top spot in my first to be read list! With Devil's Kiss, she once again proves her chops in the Western Romance genre, along with her skill at crossing the genre boundaries with ease. Indeed, this author seems just as at ease with a shape shifter story or the Fantasy genre as she does with her Historicals and Westerns! In TJ, we find a heroine with enough grit and determination to best any man at his own game, whether it is gun-fighting or poker playing. We also find that while TJ has succeeded in a man's world during an era when it should be nearly impossible for a woman to do so, she yearns to find `Tessa Jane', the woman she lost along the way. Jack is relentless, refusing to play by TJ's rules, and yet respecting her for her accomplishments and skills. If anyone ever proved `killing them with kindness' as a most effective strategy it was Jack. As confounding as he finds TJ, she is even more perplexed by the kindness and care he shows her at every turn, no matter how cantankerous she is or what she throws at him. As is typical of Williamson's stories, the characters earn their happy ending by enduring hardships and loss along the way. Be assured you will run through the gamut of emotions while reading this story, but you will definitely be left satisfied!
the devil missed the mark: I am not going to go into a rendition, I see this has been done. I am sorry to say this is the worst book I have read in a long time. The characters were not believable, the story was lame and poorly written. I found the author would jump from situation to situation, especially during intimate parts, without going into any details. I very RARELY find a book that I had to force myself to finish, but I paid money for this book so I had no choice. I do not recommend this book at all, if it were a free novel on the internet it still would not be worth the read.
