Grizzly G3312 Saw Horse Brackets

Categories:

Sturdy and fairly inexpensive:
Two sets of these brackets, plus some 2x4 lumber, will produce two sturdy sawhorses with about 1/2 hour of cutting and assembly. You need to buy two - one sawhorse is about as useful as one shoe. They aren't perfect though - the sawhorses you make will be somewhat heavier than those you could make from scrap. The package says "instructions included" ... nope. The wing nuts supplied can't make enough force to pull the carriage bolts (also supplied) properly into the 2x4 material. Regarding instructions, you really don't need much - I was able to figure out the measurements, but I'm familiar with what height and width sawhorses should be. I'd recommend that you buy 4 8' 2x4s to make these - cost, about $10. The picture shows wider material for the top surface, but 2x6s or 2x8s are more than twice the cost of 2x4s, and I don't think you'll gain anything for the money. Make 8 legs, 31" in length, and 2 top plates, 36" in length. Measure in 5" from each end of the top plate for the bolt, centered in the 2x4. If you have the skills, bevel the leg ends to the angle that makes the leg ends sit flat on the ground. If not, cut them straight across - it'll be ok, though it won't look as nice. I used a regular nut and washer in place of the wing nuts. The legs will be wobbly unless you tighten the fastener with a wrench. Building sawhorses from scrap will be cheaper, but these brackets are a good option if you are starting from nothing and only have a saw.
