The Parrot Who Owns Me: The Story of a Relationship

I was surprised at how the book looked. It was like it was brand new and never been read. I'm very happy with the results of buying on Amazon and will continue to do so.

You don't have to have a parrot to love this book!:
Very informative but easy to read. Not so dry and scientific that it will turn you off. Who knew parrots were so smart and had such specific personalities. You will fall in love with Tiko but, as the author mentions, beware taking on the ownership of such a demanding bird. I have a friend who owns a parrot and knows a great deal about them and she says the book explains so much to her about her little 'green feathered husband' as she calls him.

Patience finally won:
I read this book years ago when I first became interested in parrots. Now, several years later I can relate to the author and the relationship she built with an Amazon named Tiko. Many people do not understand the huge difference in sharing your life with a cats and dogs vs. parrots. Parrots bond with their human as their flock. If something happens to their flock, they grieve and often die prematurely as a result. They also have incredible memories and hold grudges. This is the case with Tiko who lost his beloved flock in a short period of time and found himself living with the enemy. Luckily, Joanna Burger, who understood parrots, lived next door and was willing to let Tiko live out his life with her and her husband. Over time his grief lessened and he bonded to Joanna in a truly unique way. In her book she tells the story of how patience and love helped Tiko regain his strength and bond to a new human. It is a beautiful story and helped me to understand some of my own parrots' behaviors.

Parrots and Relationships:
One of the BEST parrot story books I have ever read. Kept my interest, and provided both laughter and a few tears. I have an African Grey and a Caique, so this "relationship" story really touched my heart. I truly have a relationship with my two parrots, so it was wonderful to read of another's experience. This book would also be great for someone who is new to owning a parrot.

I loved it.:
I read this book 5 years ago and I often think of it, possibly because I share my house and woodwork with a very special parrot that I adore, too. Beautifully written and enlightening and charming at the same time, it will tempt you to run out and buy a parrot. Don't. Rescue a neglected one instead.
