Awesome fun! Durable! Easy once you learn.: Fun. This is the most popular toy in the cul-de-sac this Christmas!! Whenever I take this out to fly, all the kids just love it. They chase it around, take turns launching it, and they even can fly it around themselves. Even 5-year-olds are flying it. My 3-year-old can launch it for me. After some practice, I was able to get consistently good flights out of it. Some of the kids can fly it around for maybe 20-30 seconds before it crashes. I can fly it for over a minute and get it 40-50 feet in the air. Durable. Because it is so light-weight, it sustains almost no damage when it wrecks, even with a nose-dive. I rarely have hard crashes anymore, as I've learned how to control the throttle and coast to a smooth landing. I also got the XPV Shadow Hawk, which is faster and bigger, and it only survived a few very hard crashes before breaking too much for recovery. Flies best with very little or no breeze. Some breeze helps it get higher altitude. I landed it on several homes on the street the first few days, but can now avoid that :-)
Mini XPV - The Best Current Micro Ready to Fly!: I have flown just about every small plane in this class and I have come to the conclusion that the Mini XPV is my favorite. The SpinMaster Aero Ace Biplane and Aero Ace Single Wing are in a close second but the Mini XPV is faster and more fun. The plane is made from very durable foam and even high speed crashes straight into the ground are likely to cause no damage at all. I've crashed into cement with no problems. If you do need a repair you can use scotch tape or hot glue to mold the foam back together. A previous review stated they are only getting a few seconds fly time. They must have a bad unit because while charging can take 25-40 minutes, I EASILY get 15 minutes or more fly time from each charge. Make sure you charge it completly with fresh batteries the first time you use the plane. The Mini XPV can fly HIGH and FAR. They advertise 25 stories high on the box and I don't doubt that. I can get it so high that I can barely tell which direction it is flying. Flying tips: Don't fly in more than 7 MPH winds. When you launch the plane launch it into the wind. Learn to turn by tapping right and left briefly, not holding onto right and left. This will prevent hard turns which loose altitude and barrel rolls (unless, of course, you want to do a barrel roll!). For the technical ones out there, the Mini XPV has differential steering, a simple controller mod gets you turn without throttle (although this doesn't help performance much), throttle has three steps, and its powered by a 130mah Lipo battery. It comes in two frequencies 27 and 49 Mhz, if you plan to fly two at once make sure you order the different frequencies. I've seen this go on sale for as low as $\o...\c on Amazon, but even at $\o...\c it is well worth it. Happy flying!
A Must Buy!: I have owned one of these for about 2 months now. It still flies strong, and I have never had a single problem with it. Compared to some other micro-fliers out there, I think this is the best one. And at $12, this is too good of a deal to pass up.
It's OK for what it is: It's just another one of those painted Styrofoam jobs, you know, the ones that get broken the first or second time they are used. I guess my nine year old nephew got what I paid for. We had fun with it for about a half an hour, and then it got lost in a patch of cacti, and NOBODY was willing to retrieve it.
Best Amazon Purcahse: This toy is a home run. For under $\o...\c (when it's on sale), there's few things in life more enjoyable than taking your 5yr old boy out to an open field and watching this thing go. It's so easy to fly, and really holds a charge. It's super durable (ran it into trees, houses, etc...) and it's still in one piece. Those little propellers really go. Just toss it in the air and crank up the props, and it flies naturally. This will really get your little one into the hobby. Thanks Amazon and Jakks!
