Binge And Purge

Categories:

This is serious, the Lunachicks will make you delirious....:
Binge and Purge, being the Lunachicks second album, is a great follow-up to Babysitters On Acid. As Binge and Purge maintains a harder edge that was present in the sound of Babysitters On Acid, it shows a more creative and playful choice of lyrics. Songs such as "This is Serious" and "Binge and Purge" uplift this album from the darker songs "Apathetic" and "Whole Lotta B.S." "This is Serious" incorporates a jingle from an old anti-drug commercial. Listen carefully and you'll be able to spot it. If you liked Babysitters on Acid, you'll love Binge and Purge; but if you've just recently heard Lunachicks with their recent albums "Luxury Problem" and "Pretty Ugly," this album will take a little getting used to. It's a great album none-the-less. Everyone who listens to it is sure to find something on this album that they'll love.

SERIOUS STUFF !!!:
Well I have to disagree with the reviewer who find this album to be a ¨part 2¨to the 1st one. It's not.In ¨Baby Sitters...¨the girls had not yet learned to play their instuments(this is merely informative,no big deal) and were influenced by their producer, the moronic Sonic Youth.Their second album find them more mature, experienced and influenced by hard rock bands like Kiss but with an overall punk sound, burying forever their debut sonic-grundge-noise crappy sound. To my surprise, this record rocks in a similar way as their latest ¨Luxury problem¨work does. And that's no small feat. For some unknown reason their label Go-Kart records, does not longer offer this title so I guess the best option is Amazon now.

Not for the Faint at Heart:
I bought this CD no more than 2 weeks ago. This was the last one which helped me complete my 5-album Lunachicks collection. This came out in 1992 (the year that marked the height of Grunge) and I can best describe "Binge & Purge" as being "Babysitters on Acid -- Part 2" because of its similar raw, acidic guitar sounds. The reason I decided to give this 4 stars is because even I got grossed out by some of the content: I warn future buyers that out of all the records the band released in the 90's, this one marks the peak of juvenile disgust by tackling about every bodily fluid imaginable. The title song "Binge & Purge" should be listened to by teenage girls as a method of staying away from Bulimia; in no more than 3 minutes, B & P describes in graphic detail how repeatedly forced regurgitations (often done in secret) can ultimately kill a girl in the end. And then there's "Plugg," which is the first (and not the last) song about PMS (flow and all!) But alot of the other tracks are cleverly written, including "Mom" and "This is Serious" (an anthem for the Lunachicks themselves!)I still recommend this to any fan of this band; it completes the band's transition from their debut record and 1995's more polished "Jerk of all Trades."
