Fine Concert From Early Days Of Bluegrass:
Hylo Brown began his recording career in 1954 with a 4 song session for Capitol and stayed with that label until 1960. He then went on to the Starday label. This fine concert album from the late 1950s captures him in his prime with the Timberliners, a stellar bluegrass band (with Jim Smoak on banjo and Tater Tate on fiddle; Timberliner mandolinist Red Rector is not present for this show). I really enjoy the material in this set and appreciate Brown's charming emcee work. This is one of my very favorite live albums; it complements Brown's great Capitol recordings of the period (available in a 2 CD set from Bear Family).
