A Tribute to Britney Spears

Categories:

Recommendable:
Fine Britney Spears tribute album. The songs sound surprisingly good for being recorded without direct participation of Britney Spears. Most I like "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction", "Don't Let Me Be The Last To Know", "Lucky", "Born To Make You Happy" and "(You Drive Me) Crazy" .

Not a genuine tribute album.:
This is one of the many so-called tribute albums coming out for artists/bands that have yet to establish a legacy and some hits that stand the test of time. At this point if Britney were to drop off, she might be remembered for Baby One More Time, Oops, I Did It Again, I'm A Slave For You and Toxic. These are her strongest hits as of December of 2004. However, it is way too early for these songs to be called Classics no matter how you put it. Whether you think Britney has talent or not is beside the point. The Monkeys are just a TV band who sang to piped-in music but yet they have some songs that have gone on to be classics. Then you have your one-hit wonders. As I said if Britney were to suddenly disappear. She may be remembered as a no-talent, science experiment or Barbie Doll. Still she would have a part in music history. It is true that tribute albums are for artists/bands who have established themselves a time-honored legacy. But it is also true that Tributes are done by other known bands/artists and not just some cover bands or singers who are not known or who are studio singers/musicians. There are no "known" aritsts on this. If it were a tribute to Madonna, it still would not be a true tribute album because, while yes, Madonna is more worthy of a Tribute. It would be more of one if known artist such as -- oh...Britney, Gwen Stefani, Dido, and other artists of today were to do it. This is not a tribute album in the sense of a true trubute album. It is simply a cash-in.

NOT Britney Spears:
I picked this up at a store looking for a collection of my favorite Britney songs on one CD. When I popped it in, I should have looked in a mirror to see the contorted look on my face. Britney's songs are carefully put together to make the most of her singing. It is NOT for someone else to try to imitate, at least not for a CD that sells commercially.

Don't buy this:
Please do not buy this album just because you are a biggest Britney Spears fan like I am so is my sister Stacey. Britney does not sing on this. The artists who sing on this are unknowns who want to be heard. I listened to the samples on this website once or twice and it was not good. So please do not buy this album just is labeled Britney Spears. Please save your money, order a Mark-Paul Gosselaar: Ultimate Gold book or spend it on TV shows on DVD, a actual Britney Spears album or something.

...laughable, sorry...:
The one redeeming quality of this CD is that when you compare the tribute artist's singing to Britney's, you realize, if you hadn't already(unless you honestly DON'T have an ear for music), that Britney Spears IS a talented singer. It is an illegitimate assessment to state that Britney can't sing simply because you don't like Britney's original, quirky style, as ability and style are truly two different things. When you compare the tribute artist's emotionless, monotone voice (I'm quite sorry, whoever you are) to Britney's vocals, you realize Britney is quite talented, after all.
