Back To The Pellet Gun -- I hope this second review takes (the first one disappeared while I was reviewing it). This Bird-X Ultrasonic Pest Repeller, in my honest opinion, does NOT work. That is, for squirrels who continually raid my bird feeders. I am 74 years old and should have known better. But I was completely taken in by the glowing enticement of the advertisement PRIOR to purchase. I carefully setup and adjusted the Bird-X within 30 feet of the bird feeders and gleefully awaited the results. For about 12 hours, I actually believed the Bird-X was admirably performing its job and I was overjoyed. Then the squirrels came, and came, and came. I could hear the sound coming from the Bird-X, but either all the squirrels at the feeders were deaf (I personally wear hearing aids) or were hungry enough to ignore the sound eminating from the Bird-X. I reread the instructions and reset and adjusted the Bird-X. I did this several times and could have sworn the squirrels were grinning at me while enjoying the bird seed. I again read the 2-page instructions and noticed one bit of information I had not noticed before. Basically, the manufacturer stated to remove all enticements that would attract the pests from the area you were trying to rid them. Unfortunately for the customer, this was not mentioned in the advertisement (probably an oversight on the part of the manufacturer). I do NOT intend to remove my bird feeders. I DID intend to remove the Bird-X gimmick, but my mind dwelt on two things. First, maybe, just maybe, the Bird-X attracts rather than deters the squirrels. Maybe while enjoying my bird seed they were also enjoying the instrumental or whatever coming from the Bird-X. Then I started grinning! Now it was Dead-Eye Bob (with the possible help of Bird-X like a siren luring sailors to their doom) versus the squirrels. Secondly, the RETURN POLICY(30-day max, customer-paid returned shipping, and 15% restocking fee) cooled or chilled me on that possibility. Final note: Save your money and invest in a good pellet gun. The only thing you (and the squirrels) will be missing is the serenading or luring of the squirrels by Bird-X. HINT: Get a recording of "Tiptoe Through the Tulips" by Tiny Tim....Same results.... May Be Fine For The Right Situation -- Beleagured Bob and I have something in common: I too started out popping at squirrels with my pellet gun.... until I got glasses and couldn't hit 'em any more. But his use is definitely not what Bird-X had in mind. In fact, it should drive his birds away with how he set it up. I wanted to get rid of mice and other varmits that come into the attic and basement when it gets cold and make annoying noises in the walls at night. So I ordered one of these and set it up in one of the two attics. Now I can't tell you it's worked 100% as I suspect the critters are still getting in via the basement and other attic. I plan to invest in two more, set them up and see what happens. I'll write again when I can say with any certainty that the ultrasonic approach works. I can say that I can't hear it and with where I've got mine, there's no pets to be annoyed. -- Dale in Woodville Keeps Cats Out Of My Garage And Off My Autos -- I have two cats that loved the interior of our garage and specifically the warm hoods of our cars. They have scratched both vehicle finishes and left their footprints from hood to truck. Bird-X Yard Gard was the perfect Rx. It has settings for many pests including cats and it works. I can leave the garage door open and they never come close. GREAT PRODUCT. Bats Be Gone... -- My attic was being overtaken by bats. I was desperate for a way to get rid of the bats without taking elaborate steps of putting nets up or trying to exterminate with chemicals. So I decided to give this unit a try. This thing works perfertly. I set it up in the attic pointing it directly at the location where the bats made their home. Within 3 days of turning it on all the bats were gone. What a piece of mind this thing has created. Now I leave it on all the time and have not had any bats return. Just Bought Our Second One -- It Works Great! -- We've had an earlier generation of this unit and have been extremely pleased with it. After many years of service, ours has finally worn out. We've used it to keep cats out of our otherwise bird-friendly yard, and it's very effective. Depending on the size of your yard, you may need more than one since its coverage is limited. But our yard is small and we change its location occasionally because the cats figure out how to maneuver through the yard without triggering it if we leave it in the same place. Highly recommended.
