Pictures From The Other Side

Categories:

What a great unknown artist:
I first saw Pamela Miller performing "Someone save our god" on the Oxygen channel. Her performance was so intimate, I was blown away and immediately went to the record store, sad thing was, they didn't have it. Although the cd is short, it shows a great range of songs, not one is the same. My favorites are Someone save our god, Summer (you can't help but sing along), and Tuesday Afternoon. I can't compare her to anyone like Fiona Apple or Tara MacLean, she stands on her own with no comparison. If you like artists with an original perspective and voice, you need to give this a listen. You won't regret it.

Excellent voice and production, great songs.:
I had gone to The Living Room in New York to see a local singer and caught Pamela Miller wrapping up her set. Within 10 seconds, I was hooked. Upon first listen, she sounds like Sheryl Crow in terms of the playfulness in her voice and sassy phrasing -- but when she soars high, it's clear she's a much stronger singer than Crow. Hers is an instrument that evokes strength, quirkiness, intimacy and irony, one you can immediately fall in love with. Pictures from the Other Side is a very strong release, its only flaw being its EP-length brevity, clocking in at about half an hour. But the material is high-quality: "Reckoning" is a dark-edged pop delight; "Moonbeam Ladies" evokes the best of Tanya Donelly's ballads, quiet and moody, with a strong sense of atmosphere; "Summer" seduces you with its pulsating groove and teasing vocal; and "All the Good Things" manages to mix catchy melodies with a heavy beat and a strange sense of foreboding. A great discovery.

More...please!:
I want to make an appeal for more CDs to be produced by this fine artist!!!

Excellent Album:
This is a great CD. The way Pamela Miller's voice moves around is surprising, original, and keeps you wanting more. What can I say, it makes me feel happy, sad - really, the whole gamut of emotions. Perfect.

5 stars not enough:
Five stars is not enough. I learned about Pam at a live show (Mercury Lounge NYC) and I was quite delighted to learn that she had a CD. "Pictures From..." is magic. It's that good. It's been a year now and I still love this CD. The songwriting is superior to start with, and the performances on the recordings couldn't be better. She really puts her all into the singing, and as a result it can get intense, and yet retain it's sincerity. I suggest you get this CD, and just listen to Pam's voice. Though original, one can hear hints of the following on the CD: Dido, Jeff Buckley, Portishead, Led Zeppelin (and/or Plant solo material), Sheryl Crow, Kate Bush and Duncan Sheik.
