Do not be fooled:
This is really a regular-shaped ironing board with a tapered (pointy) end. It is not as long as a regular ironing board and is definitely not rectangular in shape. In order to make it rectangular you must add the extension piece which fits over the pointy end and makes a seam in your ironing surface. You then cover that up with the ironing pad and cover. I have not taken mine out of the plastic yet because I am still considering returning it, so I can't tell you how noticeable the seam between the two pieces will be after assembly. I will edit my review, if necessary, later on. A word about Brookstone. Their customer service representative was very rude to me on the telephone--granted, I had become upset during the proceedings, so she was reacting naturally, which is very human, but not how customer service representatives are supposed to act. She misunderstood that I was criticizing Brookstone and not her personally. I insisted that Brookstone had sent me the wrong item or else had falsely represented the item in their advertisement on Amazon and was told that I must go to their website to see accurate photos of the ironing table! (I was also told there were links on this page to their website, but there aren't any.) In other words, they supplied Amazon with incomplete, misleading information and that was somehow my mistake. Therefore, I had to pay the shipping costs for returning the item. They would rather have me pay $23 than avoid a bad review for something that is ultimately their fault. As a result, I don't have a very warm, cuddly feeling about this EXPENSIVE ironing board (called an ironing table by its manufacturer) nor its distributor, so I cannot recommend either one.
