Mozart ain't easy...: ...and especially when you take on the responsability to make it new. The D Minor concerto is a scary, haunted, comical-tragical-historical-pastoral piece of music. It should be a little dangerous. But most people (Till Fellner, are you listening?) just phone it in. You can...because any virtuoso worth his or her salt can work it up in a couple a' days and get on out there and wow the squares. Well, Sandor Vegh, especially, is not one to not give 100 percent and he inspires Schiff to extremely committed, if occasionally somewhat mannered playing. Maybe I might say that I admire the effort more than the result. But it's a good one in nice modren stereo sound. You'll like it a lot. Oh, by the way, whomever is playing oboe really goes for it!
