As Good as it Gets:
I purchased several different products as a sampler before building an emergency supply. Between the MRE, Lemon SOS bar, and the Datrex bar, this was the clear choice if I had to stick with just one. The SOS bars were just a little too much like a strong lemon Crisco bar and I just couldn't muster eating all 9 squares. MRE's are pretty good, but cost 6 times more for a 3 day supply and can be difficult to get menus with more than a couple kid friendly entrees. I'm sure I'll not be skipping any more meals for one or two pieces of a Datrex, but I could make it through a week eating them if I had to. They also taste enough like a no-bake coconut cookie, that hungry kids would easily accept them as well. I would suggest sticking with the 3600 packs. The price is typically just 20% higher for the larger pack and they contain 50% more food. Since the pack is spread over 3 days, the difference between eating 1200 as opposed to 800 kcal per day is really the difference between dreaming of having something more interesting to eat and being truly hungry.
