Edible Sunset Hibiscus (Abelmoschus manihot) Known also as an edible hibiscus, this obscure Chinese species is a tropical perennial, half shrub that can reach 6 feet in height. Flowers are three to five inches, yellow in color, and have a dark burgundy eye. The edible leaves have a large ovate shape with five to nine lobes, and resemble maple leaves. The leaves of Abelmoschus manihot are highly nutritious, and are commonly used in salads, stir fry, stews, and soups. Watered during dry spells, they will flower abundantly until frost. 6' tall.
